Emma and Lola are in their early twenties and already know one thing or two about broken hearts, unbearable expectations, and misconceptions. During a summer holiday, what it's a simple escape to the tropical wilderness of the Everglades to forgive and forget, turns into a self-discovery journey, with daydreaming fantasies, childish games, and a quirky rebellion against roles and rules.
Postcards From Last Summer, is a hypertextual coming-of-age film-essay. Build upon handwriting notes, off-screen narration, and tableaux vivants is
an evocative snapshot about the need to find your true self.
The original film score was created by Berlin-based composer, musician,
and Performer Ella Zwietnig –a member of Free The Work, and the Alliance
for Women Film Composers– and her partner Florian Zwietnig, a prolific composer, sound designer, producer, and past member of the band Mediengruppe Telekommander. They created dreamy and ethereal soundscapes to enhance the summer-ish and evocative spirit of the film at Oguum Boguum Studios in Berlin, Germany & Ochsendorf, Austria, between June and September 2019.
Shot independently in 16mm during 2019 on locations at Everglades National Park and Miami, Florida; it features Isadora Leiva (Pig Skin, Death of a Fool) and Julia Steiner.
